My New Year Resolution Is???

31 Dec

Today is the last day of the year that went by; the year 2008. A good many of us are usually busy in making plans for the evening. Girls pondering over the best dress, which would agree with all the aspects of fashion, guys deciding which place would have the cheapest booze and some girls with their so called “Boyfriends” or Spouses planning a romantic dinner.

But apart from all the fun, frolic and hoopla, this is also that time of the year when everyone makes resolutions. Frankly speaking I have never actually taken the pains to make any resolutions, because of the simple reason that I’m sure of not following them ever. Sounds like I’m a lazy person, but it happens with everybody.

Some of us make serious resolutions, some just for the heck of it, and some just because everyone else seems to be making them. But one thing is common among all resolution makers on the planet: They never follow it. Some can do it for a day, some for a week and some few for a month.

The root cause of the problem is the word “Resolution”. The word itself is overbearing and intimidating, and it takes away all the enthusiasm and inspiration to do anything in the first place.

What many of us do not realize is that by giving a tag to our dreams and aspirations we are defeating the actual purpose of being successful in life. This sounds far fetched, but is true 9 out of 10 times.

Just yesterday while listening to the bickering of a RJ on a popular Radio Channel I came across this discussion that they were having with some callers, who had the time to call the radio station and take part in some useless contest. They were asking people about (No prizes for guessing) their New Year Resolutions and the most popular of all was “I will Lose weight in 2009”, “I will go to gym and be fit in 2009”

Now after making this commitment to lose weight, the person will go to the gym very regularly for say a week or at the most two weeks. But after that he will drag himself out of bed every morning only because of the fact that he had very proudly made a “New Year Resolution” list and printed it in Bold Italics and pasted it on his bedroom wall. Instead if he would have treated the going to the gym part just another aspect of his daily routine, like having a bath(Ok some people avoid this too 😉 ) or brushing his teeth it would have been much more easier to follow it.

One question that usually comes in my mind is why wait till the year ends to make changes in our lives? I think any day is good enough to start afresh, to change how you live your life to make some realistic goals.

The only thing I believe in is making one small goal everyday. It could be the smallest or most insignificant thing to anybody else but it might be important to you, and the satisfaction of achieving it is much better than making a totally unrealistic “Resolution” and following it for a week or two.

So the bottom line is don’t get bogged down by resolutions and don’t try to drastically alter you life. Take care of the small things and the big things will take care of themselves.

B+… Really????

24 Dec

What does it really take to be a good person?? How would I know… am i a good person at all??

Sounds pessimistic doesn’t it? Well yes it is, and yes it’s my inner self talking to me. Have i really become a big time pessimist? Do i always see the half empty glass? As a matter of fact yes i do, and its intensity has increased to the level that i can’t even see a glass anymore.

Some of you will stop reading after this point thinking why should i bother about her problems? i got issues of my own u see….

But the fact is sometimes we are more apt at listening to and solving other people’s issues than our own. i think all human beings have this tendency to be didactic when it comes to someone else’s woes.

Anyways, the reason for writing this post is mainly because of this one thing that the whole world seems to be talking about and that is the term called “positive thinking”

Frankly i do not understand the concept of positive thinking at all. Numerous people have written books about it, made money out of teaching people how to use it and even made documentaries giving examples of people becoming rich just by having a positive approach to life (The Secret by Rhonda Byrne) Some of you might call me a cynic, but no i am not. I totally believe in being positive. But what is difficult is to be positive ALL the time.

I don’t think any person ever has been able to achieve that. I mean what do u do when you have nowhere to go. What do u do when u are confused as hell about your life. What do u do when nothing seems to be working out the way you had planned, what do you do when nothing is going right? Do these problems somehow magically get solved themselves merely by keeping a positive attitude?

Many of you might argue saying it’s not just a positive attitude, but a number of other things, like patience that play a role in a successful life. But really how much patience is enough patience. How much determination how much self confidence or positive attitude is just about enough to get you where you want??

There are times when i just want to curl up in my bed switch off my cell phone, stop the wall clock, and just show my back to the world and be free of all the obligations and responsibilities.
